Brad Pitt cut the umbilical cord of his new daughter when she was born.

The actor was in the delivery room when his partner Angelina Jolie delivered the girl, who they have named Shiloh Nouvel, via Caesarean section in a private hospital in Namibia on Saturday (27.05.06).

Pitt, like many new dads, was offered the chance to cut the cord - the lifeline which joins mother and baby - by medical staff and reportedly jumped at the chance.

The couple’s obstetrician, Jason Rothbart, who travelled to the Southern African country from the US to be at the birth, revealed Brad carried out the impromptu procedure and has also revealed the baby’s weight.

He said: “The baby was a healthy 7lb. Brad was with Angelina the entire time and cut the umbilical cord. The surgery and birth went flawlessly.”

Shiloh Nouvel is the couple’s first biological child – the ‘Tomb Raider’ actress has two adopted two children, Maddox, four, and 16-month-old Zahara, who Brad became a legal guardian of earlier this year.

Madonna is reportedly going to be the new face of fashion chain H&M.

According to Swedish reports, the singer is negotiating a multi-million pound deal to front the Scandinavian clothing firm.

The country’s Expressen newspaper said: "She's a superstar, a style icon, and controversial. Madonna could be H&M's next clothing model."

The 47-year-old mum of two will be the latest in a long line of stunning star women to front ad campaigns for the popular high-street chain.

Previously, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Anna Nicole Smith have all advertised the brand.

The firm also boasts successful collaborations with high-profile designers such as Madonna’s close friend Stella McCartney - her capsule collection sold out in minutes and caused chaos as fans scrambled for cheap off-the-hanger pieces.

H&M have recently announced they will launch a special collection created by Dutch design duo Viktor + Rolf in November.

British films are helping drag Hollywood out of a box office slump.

Latest figures show movies made in the UK - including 'Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire' and 'Batman Begins' - have doubled their share of the multiplex market in just two years.

Britain's Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell, talking to journalists at the Cannes Film Festival, said: "This is fantastic success story for the industry."

In 2005, the 10 best-performing British films grossed $2,599 million dollars.

The most successful UK film of 2005 was the fourth 'Harry Potter' movie which earned $808 million worldwide, however only one of the top 20 biggest-earning UK films of last year was funded without any money from the US - Oscar-winning political drama, 'The Constant Gardener'.

Pirate DVDs of 'The Da Vinci Code' are already on sale in China.

The bootleg copies of the blockbuster were available on the streets of Shanghai within days of controversial movie's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The DVD's are changing hands for as little as 33p each, however, the quality of the DVDs is reportedly so poor that people were forced to stop watching it halfway through the film.

One customer said: "People kept walking in front of the cinema screen and obstructing my view. I could even hear someone drinking Coke or something."

Staff at the shop said the DVD had been "pirated overseas" and promised that "better quality" versions of the movie would be on sale next month.

Meanwhile, 'The Da Vinci Code' has enjoyed one of the biggest opening weekends in film box office history - $250 million worldwide.

The figure puts it just behind 'Star Wars III: The Revenge Of The Sith', which made $252,000.

However, the film - which is based on the best selling novel by Dan Brown - has been panned by critics, while many church leaders have called for the film to be banned.

The British actress auditioned for the role of Lynette Scavo - which is played by Felicity Huffman - but was rejected because producers wanted a super slim actress.

Paul McCartney has denied his estranged wife, Heather Mills, married him for his money.
The former Beatle announced yesterday (17.05.06) that the pair have separated after four years of marriage.

Critics have panned controversial blockbuster, ‘The Da Vinci Code’.

The film – based on best selling novel by Dan Brown - was screened for journalists for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday (16.05.06).

One viewer, Peter Brunette – the critic for American newspaper The Boston Globe – said: “I didn't like it very much. I thought it was almost as bad as the book. Tom Hanks was a zombie, thank goodness for Ian McKellen.

“It was overplayed, there was too much music and it was much too grandiose.”

During a crucial moment in the film, the 2,000-strong audience reportedly burst out laughing.

Another critic said: “At the high point, there was laughter among the journalists. Not loud laughs, but a snicker and I think that says it all.

“At the end, there was no applause, just silence.”

Among the other complaints levelled at the two and a half hour film were that it was “confusing” for people who hadn’t read the book - which has already sold some 50 million copies worldwide and been translated into 44 languages – and that the dialogue was “cheesy”.

The film – which had its premiere in Cannes last night (17.05.06) – opens around the world on Friday.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have sold the first picture of their unborn baby for a staggering £2.6million, according to a report.

The A-list couple – who are staying in Namibia while they await the birth of their first baby – have allegedly negotiated the huge fee with an American weekly magazine.

Boy George has been ordered to work in a hospice for HIV victims.

The former Culture Club star must help out in the hospice for five days after a US court prosecuted him for wasting police time.

The 80s pop star - real name George O'Dowd – was slapped with the community service order after falsely reporting a burglary at his New York apartment last year.

Boy George was also charged with drugs offences after police responding to his call discovered cocaine at his flat.

The gay 44-year-old later explained the narcotics had been abandoned at his apartment after a party.

The drugs charges were dropped, but the star admitted making a false burglary report.

However, the singer insists he is happy with his assignment.

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is recovering from a concussion – after falling out of a palm tree.

The ageing rocker was taken to hospital after injuring himself while he was on holiday in Fiji. He was later airlifted to a New Zealand hospital for observation.
The band’s spokeswoman, Fran Curtis, confirmed the 62-year-old guitarist was injured but did not comment on his condition or the circumstances.

However, local media have reported that Richards hurt himself falling out of a palm tree – which he had climbed to pick coconuts. New Zealand's Sunday Star-Times newspaper quoted Dr Uzzal Kanti Dhar - of Suva Private Hospital in Fiji, where Richards was first treated - as saying: "I understand he climbed a coconut tree and fell from the tree and got injured."

Bandmate Ronnie Wood had also climbed a palm tree to collect coconuts, according to the Melbourne Herald Sun. One newspaper is also saying Richards got on a Jet Ski after the fall and had another accident.

Chris Martin is dumping his Coldplay bandmates to go back to school.

The rocker has revealed his retirement plans include enrolling in a classical music course when he calls time on the chart-topping group. He said: “When I’m 40, and too old to be a rock star, I plan to go back to college to study classical music.”
