Amy Winehouse may commit suicide if her husband dies from a drugs overdose, her father-in-law has claimed.

Giles Civil believes the troubled singer - who overdosed on an alleged cocktail of drugs, including heroin, earlier this month - and his son Blake Fielder-Civil are on the verge of killing themselves through drugs and fears if one of them dies the survivor may take their own life.

Giles told BBC Radio 5 Live: "They're very close to the edge. If one dies through substance abuse, the other may commit suicide."

His wife Georgette Fielder-Civil also fears Amy and Blake - who were pictured splattered in blood after a furious row last week - will die through drug abuse, saying: "I think they both need to get medical help before one of them, if not both of them, eventually dies."

Giles has no doubt in his mind Amy, 23, and Blake, 26, are serious drug addicts and regularly use cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin. He claims the pair are still in denial about the severity of their addictions.

Giles explained: "Georgette and I both believe that they are drug addicts, and they don't believe they are. I think they believe they are recreational users of drugs, and they are in control, but it seems to Georgette and I that this isn't the case.

Meanwhile, Amy's dad Mitch thinks his daughter and son-in-law - who have already quit rehab twice - will have to hit rock bottom before they decide to quit drugs.

Mitch said: "The only way out of this is not sectioning them, not locking them up. At some point they are going to reach rock bottom."

Madonna is set to adopt a girl from Malawi.

The ‘Hung Up’ singer, who currently in the process of adopting 23-month-old Malawi boy David Banda, will be able to take home 13-month-old Mercy next April.

Malawi officials asked Madonna and her husband Guy Richie to meet 10 girls before a final decision was made. The 49-year-old singer bonded with Mercy and three other girls, Jessica, Fanizio and Grace at the Kondanani Orphan Care Centre last October.

Madonna reportedly had her heart set on Grace, but the child’s extended family objected. Mercy has an aunt and other family members, but they are too poor to look after her, so they were forced to send her to an orphanage. Madonna will file adoption papers in February and has told her lawyer in Malawi, Alan Chinula, to “cover all legal bases” to ensure the adoption goes smoothly.

Her adoption of David sparked controversy after it was revealed the boy’s father, Yohane Banda, was still alive. Some critics of her adoption claimed Madonna’s case was fast tracked because of her celebrity status.

The 38-year-old actor – who was reportedly found by his brother Luke – allegedly overdosed on a cocktail of crystal meth and prescription medication Oxycodone dubbed ‘hillbilly heroin’ before slashing his wrists.

Owen – who was said to be suffering from depression - visited the St. Monica church in his neighbourhood on August 23 before embarking on a three-day drugs binge.

Social workers at the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services will be making enquiries into Britney’s suitability to care for sons Sean Preston and Jayden James. The child abuse allegations were reportedly raised during an unscheduled court hearing yesterday (27.08.07).

Although Britney – who is currently fighting ex-husband Kevin Federline for sole custody of Sean, 23 months, and Jayden, 11 months – was not at the hearing, her lawyer Dennis Wasser reportedly attended along with Kevin’s lawyer Mark Kaplan.

Britney’s behaviour in front of her children has been criticised in recent weeks with sources claiming the boys are not living in a healthy and stable environment.

One said: "She drinks in front of the kids. At first, the drinks would help her loosen up and not be so angry. But she'd inevitably drink too much and be out of it, at which point the nannies would take care of the kids.”

Kilembe denied he obtained money from the star and claims cancelling the visit could threaten Madonna’s chances of keeping David, saying: “What this means is that the whole adoption process may crumble and David could be sent back to his village.”

Kilembe was due to visit Madonna and her family at her London home twice this year. The Malawi high court was relying on his testimony to make a decision on whether Madonna’s adoption should be formalised in a hearing next year.

Malawian officials claim they have selected another representative to conduct the assessment. A minister said: “We have already contacted Madonna to inform her that someone else and not Kilembe will come to asses her, because we feel Mr. Kilembe personalised the whole issue.”

However, as Kilembe was appointed by the high court, some sources believe he is the only one who can report his findings to the hearing. David has been living with Madonna since he left Malawi last October.

Sources claim the 25-year-old singer funded the promo for comeback single ‘Get Back’ because she was going against the wishes and advice of her label, Jive Records.

The video, which was shot in a Los Angeles warehouse, features Britney pole dancing in a tiny black dress and thigh high boots. The extras dancing in the video worked for free but Britney had to pay for the rest of the production costs.

A source told E! Online: "There's no real reason for her to pay for a video herself unless it's about creative control. "If the label pays for the video, they hire the director and the rest of the creative team.

"I suspect this is her wanting to steam ahead and answer her critics now, while her label wants to wait." Meanwhile, Britney had to rush her new puppy, London, to the vet on Friday (03.08.07).
