Our work: shining a global spotlight on Iranian Human Rights abuses

Aban Tribunal

The Aban tribunal contacted us at the start of summer 2022 to publicise the judgment of the investigation into the 2019 Iranian Atrocities - which was released in September 2022.

Story

Before the judgement was released, we proactively placed an influential article and Op-Ed in the Telegraph, helping to stop the deportation of a key witness who was a former police officer in Iran to Rwanda.

The judgement landed in a challenging media environment sandwiched between political party conferences. We reacted by hooking the story to the current protests in Iran, underlining its ongoing relevance and pushing it up the news agenda.

We placed significant news stories in The Guardian, AFP and the influential Middle East Publication, The New Arab. This piece and the broader judgement story were heavily syndicated worldwide, accounting for nearly 3/4 of all coverage the two-year tribunal had secured in just one day. The coverage spanned the US, Europe, Asia and Africa. Over 78 articles, we have a global reach of 3,262,008,500 and contributed to renewed scrutiny of the Iranian government’s human rights record.

Impact Highlights

"It has been a pleasure working with Borkowski for the past few months. We are extremely grateful for our cause being heard by so many people across the world. I very much appreciate that Borkowski took this project on pro-bono and treated it like any other - with passion and enthusiasm."
